You can do this by setting up a related links page on your website. You then put links of other people's sites onto it and they put your link on their site. This is all done by contacting the owner of a website with which you wish to exchange links.

When other websites link to you, it increases your chances of getting indexed higher in the search engines.

There are many more other traffic generating ideas you may want to look into, however, it is best to focus on just one or two traffic generation techniques and putting them into action first. Otherwise, you may end up becoming overwhelmed and chances are it will take longer before you begin to see the results you had hoped for.
