Increasing Web Traffic By External Links
You have heard it said that on a web site "content is king". It works for people. Well written and frequently updated content will keep visitors on your web site for longer; it will bring them back to your site for more; it will also prompt them to spread the word about your site among their friends. It also works for major search engines. Relevant content rich in meaning is likely to get your web site ranked better. A painless and effective way to provide good content is an article directory.
There are many ways to get free web traffic, one of which is to post comments on blogs relevant to the subject your site covers. On most blogs there is a comment area which will normally have an option to allow posters to make their name link to a web site. This can be used to link back to any site you choose, including your own. If you run a site on stamp collecting, make up a relevant user name such as 'stamp collector dude' instead of your real name.
It's important not to abuse this. Only comment when you have something interesting and relevant to say. Mention that you have a site if it is easily worked into the post, but do not post too often or mention your site gratuitously. Blog spam really turns people off and can diminish your site in the eyes of your target audience. Your attempt to increase web traffic can backfire. But if you have things to say about the subject of your site, find some good blogs to say them on.
It's helpful to do some online networking. Find other people with sites that would attract your target audience, and email the site owners. Ask for a quote from them for an online article, or invite them to do a guest appearance on your blog or write an article for your site.
Site owners are often flattered to do this, and they may give you a link back from their site or even put you on their blog roll. They may want you to write an article or guest blogger post on their site, giving you even more exposure and free web traffic.
Never limit your online spectrum to only blogs or sites. Some of the most successful blogs have gotten their exposure in print media, such as a local newspaper or large magazines like Newsweek and Time. This recognition has led to vast amounts of hits. Even though they are an old form of media, many newspapers and magazines now have an online component.
One of the best ways to increase web traffic is by having your site linked in a large publication. To do this, find out which reporters cover subjects that are of interest to your readers. Writing to them that you enjoy their articles, sending them press releases and letting them know you have a site that relates may get you quoted and your site mentioned.
